Florida LLC Bank Account

Mail Box

As a Florida LLC, you will need to have a bank account. Typically, you should be able to open the appropriate account for your needs at any bank. LLCs who want to maximize privacy may want to opt for a local credit union or a bank of a smaller size. If you prefer to work with a bank that has experience dealing with corporate and LLC accounts, then a larger one may make more sense.

Even if you have an anonymous LLC, the process of opening your bank account should be very similar to doing so for any other LLC. This means the document requirements are the same. The only difference is that you must explain to the banker assisting you that your name will not be on the LLC's Articles of Incorporation. Bankers, even those in small banks and credit unions, are increasingly aware of this possibility due to the growth of anonymous LLCs.

When choosing the bank to open the account with, you should also note that it can be located anywhere. They do not necessarily need to have Florida branches. However, they must be willing to open an account for a Florida LLC.

Required Documentation

Checklist

The documents required to open an account as a Florida LLC may vary slightly based on the bank, but the following documents are almost always necessary:

  • Articles of Organization of your LLC. (If you are a corporation, you need your Articles of Incorporation.)
  • The governing documents: operating agreement for LLCs or bylaws for corporations.
  • EIN (the employee ID the IRS provides)
  • Two types of identification, with at least one including a picture

The Actual Process to Open an Account

briefcase

The actual process of opening your bank account for your Florida LLC is just like opening any other type of account. Your bank will also be able to walk you through the process.

Start by selecting the bank that you want to work with. This will largely depend on your preferences and the bank's account offerings. Remember that your chosen bank does not need to have branches in Florida as long as it is willing to work with you. It is more common for larger banks to open accounts for those who are not in the state than smaller banks and credit unions, but there are always exceptions. There are also other options, such as the Small Business Bank, dedicated to offering LLC accounts.

In some cases, you may also have to choose the type of account you want to open at your selected bank. Large banks are more likely to have several types of business accounts available. Bankers should be able to help you select the right one, or the company assisting you with other LLC documentation can help you.

Once you have chosen your bank, you simply begin the application to open an account and submit the required documents. This will likely be some combination, if not all, of the previously listed documents.

With your Florida LLC bank account up and running, you will be able to start your business in earnest knowing that you have taken care of an essential component of asset protection and recordkeeping.
